Swim-Dive wins 11 of 17 events in opener

Tommie Swim-Dive opened its 2918-19 season as it won 11 of 17 events in Saturday's St. Thomas Relays.

Six men's teams and seven women's teams competed: Augsburg (women), and St. Olaf, Carleton, Luther, Macalester, Hamline and UST in both genders.

The Tommies won the mixed 200 medley relay with Tom Negaard, Ashley Christensen, Omar Omar and Anna Berdahl;

The UST women won seven events:

  • the 800 free relay in 8:09.73 with Alex Howard, Annie Kleckner-Thiele, freshman Ann Van Hout and Molly Vancil;
  • the 300 breaststroke relay in 3:24.82 with Ava Carefoot, Deidree Voss, Melissa Rose and Christensen;
  • the 300 fly relay in 2:54.02 with Haley Cassens, Kate Smarjesse, freshman Anna Astrup and Katelyn Strauss;
  • the 300 back relay in 3:00.08 with Kirsten Nelson, Maggie Vancil, freshman Erin Rudd and Van Hout;
  • the 400 free relay in 3:41.76 with Howard, Smarjesse, Strauss and Kleckner-Thiele;
  • the 4x100 IM relay in 4:24.80 with Rudd, Christensen, Carefoot and Paige Pawlenty;
  • the 200 free relay in 1:45.83 with Berdahl, Cassens, Kleckner-Thiele and freshman Haily Buchanan.


The UST men won three events:

The Tommies will play host to the Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle next Saturday at Anderson Pool.
