Men's Tennis tabbed sixth in MIAC poll

MIAC news release

--

St. Thomas was picked for sixth in the 2018 preseason poll of MIAC men's tennis coaches released Thursday by the conference office.

Gustavus, Carleton and Macalester took the first three spots.

First-year head coach Ted Lauer, a former St. Thomas assistant coach, takes over a Tommie team that returns six players from its 2016-17 roster, led by senior Ben Wait.

Wait was slowed by injury last season but is 15-8 in singles and 23-10 in doubles over his first three seasons at St. Thomas.

UST opens its season Feb. 10 with two matches in DePere, Wis., against St. Norbert and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

The Toms open MIAC play in mid-February against Concordia-Moorhead. They will take their annual spring-break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. in late March with several matches scheduled. UST has three matches indoors at the Minnesota Gophers' Baseline courts, and two outdoors at St. Paul Academy.
