St. Thomas Track and Field had several good early-season performances on Friday and Saturday with athletes at two California and one Twin Cities meet.

At least four Purple athletes had performances that rank in the top 10 of Division III: 

  • Eric Holst threw 191-0 in the hammer Friday at Whittier, which ranks seventh in the nation and second in the MIAC.
  • Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer, Carl Kozlowski clocked 1:53.34 in the 800, and that times ranks third nationally and first in the MIAC;
  • Karl Wachter ran 3:54.29 in the 1,500, and ranks 14th nationally.
  • Parker Rosenau clocked 9:18.38 in the steeplechase, and ranks 11th nationally.

Several other Tommies had top-70 national performances:

In all, St. Thomas has 31 individual top-six MIAC performances. Besides those above, that list also includes:

  • Freshman Erik Anderson in the 110 hurdles (15.69, 4th) and in the 400 hurdles (57.31, 6th).
  • Brian Carl in the 800 (1:57.21, 6th).
  • George McGivern in the 5,000 (15:29.82, 5th).
  • Adam Rikkers in the pole vault (14-0 3-4, 4th).
  • Coates in the 100 hurdles (15.78, 6th).
  • Bill Lickliter and Noah Steward in the high jump (6th, 5-10 3-4).
  • Lickliter sixth in both the long jump (20-8 1-2) and triple jump (41 9 1-4).
  • O'Brien fixth in the shot put (47-11).
