Men's Awards

The MIAC champion St. Thomas men's track and field was a repeat honoree on the 2019 All-Academic Team selected by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association.

With more than 80 athletes on their roster, the Tommies have a 3.30 grade-point average. The Tommie men have 29 athletes with gpas of 3.50 or better, including 11 at 3.85 or better.

In addition, nine Tommies received the USTFCCCA's individual All-Academic honor:

  • Senior Parker Rosenau (West Fargo, N.D.) made CoSIDA Academic All-America. He was 2019 MIAC runner-up and placed 10th at outdoor nationals in the steeplechase in 2018; he also made Academic All-MIAC and was honored by the USTFCCCA for cross country last fall. A repeat USTFCCCA track honoree, he's a Neuroscience major, and was a multiple Academic All-MIAC honoree.
  • Senior Conor White (Deephaven), an NCAA indoor qualifier in the long jump, was ranked nationally in the long jump throughout his career and was an eight-time MIAC indivudal champion. He was an Operations Management major.
  • Senior David Danhauer (Barrington, Ill.), an NCAA indoor and outdoor qualifier, received All-America honors in football and track and field as a senior. He placed eighth in the shot put at outdoor nationals after being seeded 10th with a career-best 54-9 1-4. Placed second in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw at the February 2019 MIAC meet, and was MIAC outdoor runner-up in the discus and shot put. His 54-4 1-2 indoor season best in the shot ranked 10th nationally and he placed 12th at the NCAAs. He improved his indoor shot put from a No. 240 national ranking as a sophomore (44-0) to a No. 63 ranking as a junior (49-10) in 2018; to a No. 10 current ranking as a senior in 2019 (54-4 1-2)
  • Junior Karl Wachter (Shakopee) was nationally ranked in the 1,500 and was MIAC runner-up in 2018 as a sophomore; he also made Academic All-MIAC and was honored by the USTFCCCA for cross country last fall. A repeat USTFCCCA track honoree, he's an Engineering major.
  • Sophomore Jake Kelly (Eden Prairie) was nationally ranked in the high jump and was MIAC outdoor champion in 2018. A repeat USTFCCCA track honoree, he's a Financial Management major.
  • Junior Gage O'Brien (Inver Grove Heights) was a two-time NCAA outdoor qualifier. He placed 11th at outdoor nationals after being seeded 17th with a 53-5 best. At 2019 NCAA indoor meet was seeded 14th and placed ninth with a career-best 54-10 1-5. O'Brien took fourth in the MIAC shot put and seventh in the weight throw in 2018, and scored in three events at the May 10-11 MIAC outdoor meet. He's made great strides: his best national ranking as a sophomore in 2018 was 104th indoors and 99th outdoors in the shot, and 193rd indoors in weight throw. He's a Mechanical Engineering major.
  • Junior Jordan Johnson (Stewartville), a Psychology major, was nationally ranked in the multi events.
  • Sophomore Tyler Adler (Waunaukee, Wis.), a Financial Management major, was nationally ranked in the multi events.
  • Freshman Eric Douville (Minnetonka), an Economics major, was among the MIAC's top sprinters and ranked in the top 25 outdoors in Division III in the 100 dash.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester, and either qualify for indoor or outdoor nationals, or make the national D-III final season performance list by TFRRS.

Women's Awards

The MIAC champion St. Thomas women's track and field was a repeat honoree on the 2019 All-Academic Team announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association.

The Tommies rank among the top 60 Division III team recipients with their excellent 3.51 grade-point average among nearly 65 squad members. The Tommie women have 34 athletes with gpas of 3.50 or better, including seven at 3.85 or better.

Six Tommies who contributed to MIAC team title sweeps indoors and outdoors also received the USTFCCCA's All-Academic honors: 

  • Senior Grace Bordson (Hutchinson), an Operations Management major, placed eighth in the indoor high jump for All-America honors and was an NCAA meet qualifier outdoors. She's a three-time USTFCCCA academic winner; also made Academic All-MIAC; four national meets; two-time indoor All-America recipient in the high jump (in 2018 placed eighth indoors, 12th outdoors; in 2019 placed tied for third indoors at 5-6 and ninth outdoors; season best of 5-7 1-4 tied for third best in D-III; two-time MIAC champion, also played volleyball for the Tommies; majoring in Operations Management.
  • Senior Katelyn Marciniak (Ham Lake/Blaine) ran on the 4x100 relay that was ranked among the top 35 nationally, and was a three-time winner. Marciniak, a double major in Human Resource Management and Legal Studies in Business, also made Academic All-MIAC. 
  • Senior Mallory Adamson (Rochester/Lourdes); was All-America in 2019 with sixth-place 400 hurdles finish in her first national meet; ranked seventh in Division III in the 400 hurdles in 61.58; two-time MIAC outdoor champion in 400 hurdles, 12-time MIAC meet placewinner in individual/relay races.. Marketing Management major... Dean's List student while majoring in Marketing Management; made All-Region in the 400 hurdles and also ran on nationally-ranked 4x400 relay teams; also made Academic All-MIAC. 
  • Freshman Claire Chell (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt), a Business Management major, was one of the MIAC's top sprinters and ran on a top-30 Division III relay
  • Junior Anna Smith (Chaska), an Exercise Scoence major, ran on a top-30 Division III relay.
  • Junior Steph Kretlow (Owatonna); placed third in Division III in the long jump outdoors (19-8 1-4); indoor best was 18-9 1-4 and later placed ninth at nationals 18-2 1-4... won her first MIAC individual title indoors in long jump, then repeated as MIAC champ outdoors in May; third last May 2018 at outdoor conference meet; sixth at indoor MIACs last winter... best 2018 jump ranked No. 145 in nation... An Academic All-MIAC honoree, Dean's List student while majoring in Biology.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester, and either qualify for indoor or outdoor nationals, or make the national D-III final season to-50 performance list by TFRRS.

Academic All-MIAC honorees have a minimum 3.50 gpa.
