Softball locks up playoff berth on Senior Day

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Heading in to Saturday's action, the St. Thomas softball team needed one of two things to happen: the Tommies needed to sweep Augsburg, or St. Catherine needed to lose at least one game to Macalester.  The UST women decided to take matters into their own hands with a sweep of Augsburg on its Senior Day, winning game one 15-0 before taking game two 11-1.

With the pair of wins today, the Tommies improve to 32-8 overall and 16-6 in the MIAC, locking up the fourth and final spot in the conference playoff field.  They will take part in the playoffs beginning Friday, May 1 at Bethel University.  Augsburg drops to 9-31 overall and 3-19 in league play.

In the opener, Kendra Bowe threw four shutout innings, allowing just one hit (a leadoff single in the first), and fellow seniors Annie Boyer and McKenzie Wergin each drove in five runs. Boyer hit a three-run homer and a two-run homer to stake UST to a 5-0 lead. Wergin had a two-run double and a three-run homer. In game two, Katie Jo Delisle and Bianca Peterson each drove in four runs and Breezy Bannon won with 3 2-3 innings of solid pitching as she allowed one run and no walks with four strikeouts.More detailed recap to come…
