Softball has that Super feeling after 3-0 weekend

No. 23-ranked St. Thomas pounded 15 hits in Sunday's 12-8 win over No. 25-ranked Coe (Iowa) in a Division III Softball Regional title game in Pella, Iowa.

The Tommies (37-9) capped a 3-0 run through the weekend and advanced to the Super Regional round of 16 for the third time in four years. 

Megan Bush had three hits, and her three-run home run in the first inning erased an early 3-0 Coe lead.

Elise Barnes, who hit a grand slam in Friday's win over Central, rank her hitting streak to 12 games. She had a single, double, triple and a walk and scored four runs. After Coe pulled withing 9-8, Barnes' triple scored one, and she came in on a sac fly for a three-run lead. In six postseason games, Barnes is batting .525 (10-for-19) with eight RBI.

The Toms' 15 hits are the most in 30 postseason games for UST dating back to 2014.

Jessica Eppenberger worked five innings in relief for the mound win for the second ,day in a row. She stranded the bases loaded in the fifth inning, got an inning-ending double play in the sixth and worked a 1-2-3 seventh.

St. Thomas will face neighbor St. Catherine (36-12) in next weekend's best-of-three series at a site, day and time to be announced. The No. 25-ranked Wildcats topped No. 3-ranked Luther (Iowa) twice on Sunday, including a 6-5 walk off in the deciding game. UST went 3-2 last season against SCU and 1-2 so far this season.
