Junior Dana Connelly went 6-for-7 with five RBI and freshman Sam Birling reached base in all seven plate appearances to lead No. 14-ranked St. Thomas Softball to Thursday's 9-1, 12-6 sweep of Gustavus in MIAC play at South Field.

Junior Melissa Barry had a four-hit game in the nightcap and closed 5-for-8 on the day. Sammy Hogan reched five times with three hits and two walks. Birling had three hits, three RBI and four walks. In Birling's last nine plate appearances she's 4-for-4 with five walks.

Junior Chase Shortly had a hit in each game and extended her hitting streak to eight contests.

The Tommies (17-5 overall, 7-1 MIAC) are the first team to seven conference victories, and only 2-0 Hamline has a better win clip in MIAC play. They extended their win streak to six and have won 13 of their last 14 games.

St. Thomas drew 11 walks to go with 27 hits and 21 runs and 17 left on base on the day. UST sophomore Hayley Dunning worked 10 innings on the day and took both pitching wins as she allowed four runs.

The Toms play two Saturday at Augsburg, and play two Sunday night against Carleton in the Rochester Community and Technical College Dome.
