Senior Sammy Hogan threw 10 1-3 shutout innings on the day for two pitching wins and added a home run and double at the plate to lead No. 14-ranked St. Thomas Softball to Saturday's 3-1, 8-0 sweep indoors at Augsburg. The second game was halted after six innings.
The Tommies (19-5 overall, 9-1 MIAC) have won eight in a row, all in the last eight days, and are in sole possession of the conference lead.
Freshman Sam Birling had a pair of RBI singles in game one. The latter RBI made it 2-1 in the fourth inning, and Hogan added a solo homer in the sixth for an insurance run.
In game two, St. Thomas used four hits, seven walks, two hit by pitch, and four errors to score eight runs. Hogan struck out two and allowed three hits and no walks over six innings. Rachel Suter had a two-run single and Birling and Chase Shortly added RBI.
The Toms are scheduled to play a doubleheader Sunday night indoors in Rochester against Carleton starting at 6:15 p.m., at Rochester Technical and Community College.
