Softball stays hot, secures top-2 MIAC seed

No. 7-ranked Tommie Softball swept Hamline Wednesday in an MIAC twinbill at South Field, 7-3 and 4-0.

Hayley Dunning had a win and a save for the Tommies (29-5 overall, 19-1 MIAC), while Chase Shortly and Dana Connelly each went 4-for-6 on the day. Elise Barnes homered and had three hits, and Jenna Beeso also had three hits.

Coach John Tschida's team secured a top-two seed for the upcoming conference playoffs. St. Thomas has won 18 in a row and 28 of their last 30 games.

The Toms finish the MIAC regular season with two games Saturday at St. Catherine. The Tommies can win another MIAC title with a split or sweep on Saturday, or with one St. Kate's loss down the stretch.

St. Thomas needs one win to record the program's 19th consecutive 30-win season.
