St. Thomas Softball claimed lucky No. 13 on Sunday -- MIAC Playoff championship No. 13 out of a possible, that is.
The No. 7-ranked Tommies pounded 15 hits over six innings and stormed into the NCAA playoffs with Sunday's 15-6 comeback win over No. 13-ranked St. Ben's. Sophomore Elise Barnes scored four times and drove in four, including the game-ending three-run homer to get UST to victory via the run rule.
In three MIAC playoff games, Barnes went 7-for-11 (.630) with six runs, seven RBI, two home runs, a double and a walk.
St. Ben's (34-8) also has a strong chance of making the NCAA field with an at-large berth.
The Blazers scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead, capped by Olivia Olson's two-run homer.
St. Thomas tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning. They regained control with six runs in the fifth inning, then ended the game in the sixth with two singles and Barnes' walk-off home run to left. Melissa Barry had three hits and Chase Shortly, Jenna Bromen and Sam Birling each had two hits.
