Beeso's blast jump starts Softball

Jenna Beeso's inside the park homer tied the game in the second inning and jump started No. 7-ranked Tommie Softball in Thursday's 9-1 victory over Northwestern-St. Paul at UST's South Field in the NCAA Regional tournament.

The game was halted in the sixth inning via the run rule

All nine starters had at least one hit for St. Thomas (36-6), which moved to 12-0 at home and has won 32 of its last 34 games.

The Toms will face UW-Oshkosh (26-12) in the winners' bracket game Friday at 11 a.m. Oshkosh topped Central (Iowa) 5-2 in the day's first game. Northwestern (25-15) faces Central (27-11) in a 1:30 p.m. elimination game.

Sammy Hogan (4 2-3 innings) and Izzy Marketon allowed no earned runs over six innings for UST.

Beeso, Melissa Barry and Rachel Suter each went 2-for-3 to lead the Toms' 12-hit attack. Elise Barnes joined Barry with two RBI, and each player also had two steals.

St. Thomas trailed 1-0 in the second when Beeso sliced a ball to the right-field corner. The UWNSP fielder dove but couldn't knock down the ball, and it skipped all the way to the fence. Beeso circled the bases to tie the game.

UST scored five runs in the fourth inning to take control.
