Softball starts Florida trip with two wins

No. 3-ranked St. Thomas Softball moved to 8-0 on the season with a pair of victories Saturday to start its spring trip in Clermont, Fla.

The Tommies had 4-3 walk-off win over No. 22-ranked UW-Eau Claire. Trailing 3-2 into the last at bat, St. Thomas had three singles to load the bases. After a strikeout, the Blugolds misplayed a grounder to let the tying and winning runs score. Freshman Megan Baniecke pitched the last three innings in relief to get the victory as she allowed no earned runs and no hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

St. Thomas came back with a 9-0 victory over Tufts in five innings. Kierstin Anderson-Glass allowed four hits and struck out three with no walks. Dana Connelly drove in four runs with a two-run double, RBI single and a sac fly. Melissa Barry had two hits. 

The Purple play Franklin and nationally-ranked UW-Whitewater on Sunday.
