Softball stays hot, sweeps to 24th win of season

No. 11-ranked Tommie Softball received 23 hits on the night from 11 different players and took an 8-0, 3-1 sweep of Carleton in MIAC play Saturday at the Dundas Dome.

St. Thomas (24-4 overall, 10-2 MIAC) has won nine in a row and remains near the top of the conference standings along with 6-1 St. Catherine.

Seven different Tommies had two-hit games, and Chase Shortly slapped a double in each game.

Kierstin Anderson-Glass tossed a two-hit shutout with no walks and two strikeouts in the six-inning victory to start the night.

Freshman Megan Baniecke allowed one run in 4 1-3 innings for the game-two win. Freshman Kendall Hopikns came on to get the final eight outs and allowed no runs, one walk and one hit with three strikeouts.

The Knights (21-8, 7-5) had the tying runs in scoring position in the last at bat with two outs, but Hopkins coaxed a ground out to first base to end the game.

The Tommies are home for MIAC doubleheaders Sunday, Monday and Wednesday against St. Mary's, Augsburg and Macalester.
