UST Women's Basketball is ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in the 2017-18 preseason polls by the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) and by D3Hoops.com.
Tufts (Mass.), Christopher Newport (Va.), Amherst (Mass.), UST and Thomas More (Ky.) hold the top five spots in D3Hoops. Amherst, Tufts and UST are 1-2-3 by the WBCA.
The Tommies graduated three top players -- National Player of the Year Kaitlin Langer at center, Paige Gernes at point guard, and wing Gabby Zehrer -- from a record-setting 31-1, national semifinal playoff team of last winter. Sinn returns eight of her top 11 players.
Fischer has 605 points and 346 rebounds on her career. When she scores nine points or more in games on her career, UST is 34-0. She has made 121 treys in 85 games. She converted 48 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore and 43 percent last season to rank among the national leaders.
Wolkow has 113 assists and 81 treys on her career.
The Toms have won 34 consecutive game against MIAC opponents, and 47 of their last 49 overall.
St. Thomas plays a Sunday Nov. 5 exhibition game against Concordia-St. Paul in Schoenecker Arena (3 p.m.).
The Toms' home opener is Sunday Nov. 26 against perennial power George Fox (Ore.), and the conference opener is Dec. 2 at Hamline.
As part of the 18-game MIAC schedule, the Tommies will play these four teams just once: Augsburg (home), Carleton (home), Concordia (away) and St. Mary's (away).
The Toms will play in four-team tournaments hosted by Skidmore (N.Y.) to start the season on Nov. 17-18. They also face Lake Forest and UW-La Crosse at Wisconsin Dells in the weekend just before New Year's Eve. Other non-conference games are against Luther and UW-Stevens Point.
