St. Thomas has climbed into 10th place out of 440 Division III institutions in the Directors' Cup all-sports competition for 2018-19.
That puts the Tommies second among all Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa schools (UW-Eau Claire, ninth) after fall and winter seasons. The Purple have compiled 536 points, and sit just 20 points out of seventh place, 45 out of fifth place, and 65 out of third place.
St. Thomas has scored points with national team places in five of six fall sports, and five of eight winter sports.
The Tommies' strong winter season was led by these national team finishes:
- third-place tie in women's basketball;
- fourth place in women's hockey;
- ninth-place tie in men's basketball;
- 12th place in men's indoor track and field;
- 43rd-place tie in women's indoor track and field.
Last fall, St. Thomas scored points in volleyball; men's and women's soccer; and men's and women's cross country.
Five other MIAC institutions sit in the top 80: Carleton (50th); Augsburg (59th); Bethel (73rd); St. Olaf (76th); and Gustavus (79th).
