Freshman Courtney Shorter had a solid debut weekend to her college golf career to lead Tommie Women's Golf at the two-day, 36-hole St. Ben's tournament.

A native of Madison, Wis., Shorter tied for 20th place in a field of 78 players with rounds of 83 and 81. That led the young St. Thomas squad to 10th place in the team chase.

Other Tommie players were sophomore transfer Joleen Werden (90-82/172); senior Kate Balison (89-88/177); freshmen Eliana Tetzlaff (86-88/174) and Sydney Steinmetz (96-82/178); sophomore Erin Kehoe (95-93/188); and freshman Elizabeth Azar (97-92/188).

Carleton (297-299/596), a top-10 NCAA finisher last May, scored a 37-stroke team victory over runner-up Gustavus.
