Women's hockey uses wild third period to collect big win

The host Tommies scored three goals in the first 5:22 of the third frame Saturday to erase a 3-2 Gustavus lead en route to a 5-4 win over the Gusties in MIAC women's play on home ice in Mendota Heights. The teams played a rare 0-0 overtime tie the night before.

St. Thomas (9-3-3 overall, 5-1-2 MIAC), which received goals from five different players, took three of four points on the weekend series. Coach Tom Palkowski's team moved into second place in the conference race just behind 6-1-1 Hamline.

UST senior Allison Borgstrom, playing in her 100th career game, had a goal and two assists. Kenzie Torpy had 24 saves for the Toms.  

Kaitlyn Klein scored three goals and Erica Power added three assists for Gustavus (10-2-2, 5-2-1). GAC trailed 2-0 after one frame then scored three in the second period to take its first lead.
