Junior Kenzie Torpy on Monday was named MIAC Women's Hockey Athlete of the Week. It was the third suxh honor of her career.
Torpy carries the torch for her teammates this weekend as the balanced Tommies took a 3-3 tie and 3-0 win over first-place and No. 8-ranked Hamline to share the MIAC championship. Six different Toms scored their six goals, and it was a team defensive effort to slow a strong Hamline team that came in with an 18-3-3 record.
The junior from Oregon, Wis., stopped 41 of 44 shots in a three-point weekend that let the Tommies share the title with Gustavus.
Hamline came into the series fifth in Division III scoring, averaging five goals a contest, but was limited to three goals over 125 minutes on the ice.
Saturday marked the ninth shutout in Torpy's three-year career as she improved to 44-17-10 on her won-loss slate.
