Women's Hockey stays hot; Torpy gets win No. 50

Freshman Chloe McEnelly and sophomore Kate Winiecki scored goals 17 seconds apart midway through the third period to break open a tight game as No. 9-ranked Tommie Women's Hockey scored a 4-0 win over St. Mary's Saturday at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

The Tommies (6-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC) capped a weekend sweep of the Cardinals (2-2, 0-2) with two shutouts. Coach Tom Palkowski's team ran its unbeaten streak to 19 (14-0-5) dating back to January 2018.

Senior Kenzie Torpy (6-0) stopped all 32 shots on the weekend and took her 50th career victory in goal. Torpy lowered her season goals-against average to 0.35.

Ten Tommies contributed points on the victory. Rachel Werdin scored the first goal in period two, and Allison Parnell scored an empty-net goal in the final 90 seconds.

St. Thomas plays next weekend against St. Catherine.
