Balance fuels another Women's Hockey victory

Rachel Werdin scored two goals and Kenzie Torpy recorded her 61st career victory in goal as No. 2-ranked St. Thomas Women's Hockey scored an 8-0 road win Friday night in conference play at St. Olaf.

The two teams close out the weekend series Saturday in Mendota Heights with the puck drop at 5 p.m.

Twelve Tommie players scored points, including goal-scorers Werdin, Demi Cooper, Allison Parnell, Anna Solheim, Sarah Moy, Alyssa Wallace and Emily Nadeau.

A freshman, Solheim has scored a goal in five consecutive games.

St. Thomas (17-0-2 overall, 11-0-2) pushed its 14-month unbeaten streak to 32 (25-0-7).

Coach Tom Palkowski's squad recorded its school-record 10th shutout of the season. The previous record for the Purple was nine shutouts in 2008-09. The Tommie defense has allowed just 12 goals in 19 games.

The Toms kept a two-point lead atop the MIAC standings on second-place Hamline, a 10-0 winner over Concordia.

Torpy (14 saves) played in her 93rd career game. She improved to 61-17-12 on her career (17-0-2 this season).

Senior Heidi Hannula played in her 100th career game for the Purple.
