Mid-game surge sends Women's Hockey to win

Sophomore Mikayla Kero's first goal of the season helped jump start No. 2-ranked Tommie Women's Hockey in Saturday's 4-1 comeback home win over St. Olaf in Mendota Heights.

St. Thomas (18-0-2 overall, 12-0-2 MIAC) ran its unbeaten streak to 33 games (26-0-7).

St. Olaf converted a power-play goal 1:54 into the contest, and the score stayed at 1-0 for the first 31 minutes on the clock.

Kero buried the tying tally, the second goal of her career, 11:14 into period two. Demi Cooper and Anna Solheim made it three goals in just 2:22 as they each scored to build the lead to 3-1.

Kate Winiecki's short-handed goal capped a run of four St. Thomas goals in a 6:53 span. Rachel Werdin chipped in two assists.

A freshman, Solheim has scored a goal in six consecutive games.

Kenzie Torpy played the first 40 minutes in goal and made 11 saves. She now has 62 career victories.

The Toms play at UW-River Falls Wednesday night in a battle of top-five ranked teams.

The four St. Thomas hockey and basketball teams capped an 8-0 week and improved to 34-0-4 since the holiday break. All four teams have double-digit win or unbeaten streaks. The four teams are a combined 48-1-6 in MIAC play with two weeks left in the regular season.
