Women's soccer wins tough conference test

Sophomore Brie Bourdage scored her first goal of the season in the 53th minute with an assist from Hailey Zweber to break a scoreless tie. The goal proved to be the game-winner, as No. 10-ranked St. Thomas held on to win 1-0 over Gustavus in a battle of the 2015 MIAC playoff championship opponents.

The Tommies move to 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MIAC play with the win while Gustavus drops to 4-2-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.

Senior keeper Tarynn Theilig recorded her sixth shutout in seven games this season and 17th of her career. Ashley Becker, the goaltender for the Gusties, made five saves in the loss.

St. Thomas collected six shots on goal and did not allow a shot on goal for Gustavus. The Toms have allowed just one goal in seven games this season.

The Tommies also held the advantage in total shots with 15 compared to three for the Gusties.

St. Thomas travels to Moorhead to face Concordia on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in another conference match.
