No. 14 St. Thomas Women's Soccer defeated Augsburg 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at South Field to conclude a 16-1-1 regular season.
Sophomore Emma Theis scored her first collegiate goal in the 45th minute to put the Tommies up 1-0. Theis took a pass from Mary Ennis and took a shot from the front left of the box that went past two defenders and the goalie to find the back of the net.
The score remained 1-0 until the 68th minute when Marta Anderson of Augsburg found the equalizer to knot the score at 1-1.
St. Thomas was able to break the tie less than 11 minutes later when sophomore Mallory DeBoom scored from traffic in the middle of the box in the 80th minute after receiving a pass from Brielle Bierman. That goal proved to be the game-winner as the final score was 2-1 in favor of the Tommies.
DeBoom has scored eight goals and four assists in her last 14 games. St. Thomas is 22-0-1 in games on her career when DeBoom scores a goal or an assist.
St. Thomas finished the season with a 10-0-1 conference record to repeat as MIAC regular-season champions. The Tommies are 25-3-2 in their last 30 games and are the No. 1 seed in the MIAC playoffs. They will host a semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. on South Field against the winner of Tuesday's match between St. Catherine and Gustavus.
