Freshman Elizabeth Luotto and junior Sara Osborne scored goals and senior Tarynn Theilig had two huge saves as No. 14-ranked and top-seed St. Thomas Women's Soccer scored a 2-0 win over No. 5-seed St. Catherine in MIAC semifinal playoff action Wednesday at UST's South Field.

The Tommies (17-1-1) moved to 10-0 at home this season and tied a school record for season victories. They're back in the MIAC playoff finals for the second year in a row and will face third-seed Augsburg (16-4) Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with an automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs at stake.

Luotto scored in the fifth minute with a header after a corner-kick entry by Hailey Zweber.

Osborne added insurance in the 82nd minute as she took a lead pass from Mallory DeBoom, dribbled deep, spun to the left of the net and beat the keeper for a 2-0 lead with her first goal of the season.

Theilig and her defensive mates recorded their 14th shutout of the season. She made a diving deflection late in the first half to save a goal, and had a point-blank deflection with 10:00 to go to again deny the Wildcats (11-6-2), who played 110 minutes on Tuesay ina  shootout win over Gustavus.

Coach Sheila McGill's Toms had a 7-3 edge in shots on goal and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

St. Thomas has won its last 51 games when it scores two or more goals. UST is 26-3-2 in its last 31 games dating back 13 months.
