EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - St. Thomas women's soccer brought home a 3-0 win over UW-Eau Claire in its final non-conference contest of the year to finish the non-conference portion of its schedule unbeaten at 5-0-1 Wednesday afternoon at Bollinger Field.
The win pushes the Tommie record to 10-3-1 overall and will send UST back into conference play for the final three games of the year. Wednesday's result also drops the Blugolds to 4-9-1 on the year.
A scoreless tie broke in the final five minutes of the first half. Freshman Paige Cater scored unassisted with 4:55 left before halftime to put the Tommies on top 1-0 and giving them the momentum headed to the break.
UST carried that momentum into the second half, scoring a pair of goals in the opening eight minutes of the final 45 minutes. Senior Brielle Bierman scored both goals, each unassisted. The first came 4:31 into the half, while the second followed just three minutes later.
The multi-score game was the fourth of her career, having tallied a two-goal performance in each of her four seasons wearing the Purple. She now has four goals in her senior campaign.
St. Thomas put five of its 21 shots on goal. Eau Claire matched the shots on goal total, but registered just seven total shots for the game. The Tommies held a 15-3 shot advantage at the half.
Olivia Elvidge registered her second win in net for the Tommie women. She made three saves in the shutout, while Anna Sveiven suffered the loss in a five-save effort.
St. Thomas will be back on the field on Saturday when it hosts St. Oaf in an MIAC bout at 3:30 pm.
