ST. PAUL – Senior Mallory DeBoom scored three goals to lift the St. Thomas women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Hamline University on Wednesday afternoon. It is the seventh straight win for the Tommies, who move to 7-1-0 (3-0-0 MIAC) on the year. Hamline moves to 3-5-1 (1-3-0 MIAC).
DeBoom's first goal came early and got the Tommie women off to a fast start. The Edina native put her team on top 1-0 in the third minute and on the first shot of the game taken by either team. The goal came with an assist from Kaley Roberts and the Tommies were off and running.
Midway through the first half, DeBoom added another goal, this time thanks to assists from Kate Heimer and Brie Bourdage. St. Thomas proceeded to take the 2-0 lead in to halftime after outshooting the Pipers 8-2 and allowing just one shot on goal.
Despite holding a 14-2 shot advantage in the second half, the Tommies held to the 2-0 lead for a majority of the final 45 minutes until they put up a pair of goals in the final seven minutes. Kaley Roberts notched a goal of her own in the 84th minute. Natalie Engel assisted on the goal to give the Tommies a 3-0 lead before DeBoom finished off her hat trick with a goal in the 87th minute. Elizabeth Luotto assisted.
For the game, the Tommies collected a 22-4 shot advantage and put 15 shots on frame to just two for Hamline. Olivia Elvidge collected the win to improve to 5-1-0 on the year, while Piper Dani Wright was tagged with the loss and falls to 3-5-1.
With the hat trick, DeBoom now has six goals on the year, which gives her 34 for her career. The Tommies are 37-0-4 in games she secures a point and are 28-0-2 when she scores a goal.
St. Thomas will host Macalester at South Field on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
