St. Thomas student-athletes received three of the eight individuals Fall Elite 22 academic awards announced Monday by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
UST senior McKenna Peplinski (3.99 in Mechanical Engineering) is the Women's Soccer honoree. She helped the Toms sweep the conference regular-season and playoff crowns and set a school record with 19 wins.
The Men's Cross Country recipient is Tommie senior Parker Rosenau (3.97 gpa in Neuroscience). He placed 11th in the conference meet; then led his team with an All-Central Region performance as he took 17th and helped the team reach the national meet, where he placed 206th despite getting a deep spike wound.
The Women's Cross Country recipient is Tommie junior Becca Wilkin (3.98 gpa in Actuarial Science). She placed 14th in the conference meet and 26th in the regional meet.
Freshmen or first-year transfers are not eligible for the honor. The award goes to one student in each gender at MIAC championship meets -- for this season in cross country and golf -- that receive All-MIAC distinction and have the best grade-point average. The award also goes to the student-athlete with the top gpa in the playoff championship games held in volleyball and soccer and among the top-two football finisher.
In the award's six-year history, St. Thomas student-athletes have been recognized 40 times of the 112 honors issued. No other conference institution has been honored more than 15 times.
