Swim-Dive teams both ranked in D-III top 20

St. Thomas Swim-Dive comes into the 2018-19 season ranked in the top 20 for both its women (No. 18) and men (No. 16) in the Division III preseason poll by the College Swim-Dive Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

The 2018-19 winter sports season officially kicks off next Saturday at Anderson Pool as the Tommies play host to the St. Thomas Relays. Diving starts at 9:30 a.m., and swim events start at 1 p.m. No team scores will be kept.

Coach Scott Blanchard's team has swept the MIAC team championships each of the last three years. The Tommie women placed 27th at nationals last season.

The Tommie women will return more than two dozen athletes, led by senior All-America Katelyn Strauss, and boasts 13 freshmen.

The UST men return more than 20 athletes, led by senior Tom Negaard, and welcome 12 freshmen.

St. Thomas has 10 home competitions this winter.


Tommie Poll Talk

Seven St. Thomas fall or winter teams are nationally ranked. Two others are receiving votes, and others are regionally ranked or could break into their preseason poll when they are annunced soon:

  • Football (No. 7)
  • Men's Golf (No. 13)
  • Women's Soccer (No. 13)
  • Men's Swim-Dive (No. 16)
  • Women's Swim-Dive (No. 18)
  • Men's Cross Country (No. 29)
  • Women's Cross Country (No. 32)

Women's Basketball is expected to be ranked in the top 10 when the poll is released in the next week.

Men's Soccer is regionally ranked. Volleyball and Men's Basektball are receiving votes just out of the top 25.
