Women's Tennis wins opener, 9-0

St. Thomas Women's Tennis opened its brief fall season with a 9-0 road defeat of UW-River Falls.

The Tommies held out two top veterans and used three newcomers in the shutout win.

Junior Jenna Zimmerman won at first singles and second doubles. She improved her career mark to 40-2 in singles and doubles -- a new school record for winning percentage.

Freshmen twins Taylor and Paige McLeod, Minnesota state champions at Benidle St. Margaret's, won at first doubles, and Taylor also won at third singles.

St. Thomas went 19-3 in 2015 matches and won the conference playoffs, and finished 16-3 last spring and shared the MIAC title.

Next up is a Sunday dual at Minnesota State Mankato. The bulk of the season will begin in February 2017.
