St. Thomas Volleyball used a balanced attack and poise to post a 3-2 win over No. 11-ranked UW-Eau Claire in non-conference play Saturday night in Schoenecker Arena. The Toms started fast with a 2-0 lead, lost momentum, but pulled together and snapped the Blugolds' 10-game win streak with a 27-25, 25-12, 19-25, 23-25, 15-11 victory.
Earlier in the day, the Toms topped St. Catherine, 3-0. Coach Thanh Pham's team (24-7) has won 16 of its last 18 matches.
Senior Katharine Mallak had 63 assists and 10 digs, and five different players had double digits in kills for St. Thomas, which hit .240. Madie Kroehler had 18 kills and 10 digs; senior Audrey Erickson had 15 kills and hit .303; senior Julia Spacek had 14 kills and three blocks; senior Grace Bordson had 13 kills and five blocks; and freshman Fran Egan had 12 kils. Ellie Meyer had 31 digs, and Meghan Mazzola chipped in 15 digs.
No. 3-seed St. Thomas plays sixth-seed St. Olaf Tuesday at home in the first round of the MIAC playoffs.
St. Thomas Volleyball ran its win streak to six with Friday night's 3-0 home victory over Northwestern-St. Paul. The Tommies hit .299 and won 25-17, 25-20, 25-15.
Sydney Schwitters had 30 assists for the Eagles (21-8).
St. Thomas (22-7) closes its regular season with two home matches Saturday: a 3 p.m. clash against St. Catherine, and a 7 p.m. battle with No. 11-ranked UW-Eau Claire. The Toms have already locked up the No. 3 seed in the six-team cnference playoffs and host a Tuesday match at Schoenecker Arena.
