St. Thomas Volleyball pulled out some tough sets and swept a pair of Saturday road matches against Oregon opponents. That let Coach Thanh Pham's team finish the two-day trip Pacific Grove, Ore., with a 4-0 record.
The Toms rallied from a 2-0 games deficit to defeat Willamette, 3-2. They rallied to beat host George Fox, 3-1.
The Purple trailed 5-2 in the decisive fifth set against Willamette before pulling out a 15-11 victory.
In the eight sets on Saturday, sophomore Fran Egan led the Tommies with 29 kills and freshman Kate Achenbach added 25 kills and hit .365. Sophomore setter Grace Anetipa had 52 assists in the five-set win and 37 more against George Fox. Senior Ellie Meyer added 47 digs on the day over the eight sets. Freshman Selena Levendoski added 21 kills on the day.
St. Thomas plays four matches this weekend at the Augsburg tournament, Sept. 6-7.
Tommie Volleyball pulled away to win its season-opening match Friday in Forest Grove, Ore. The Tommies topped Lewis and Clark, 25-20, 25-10, 25-12.
St. Thomas (2-0) came back later and scored a 3-1 win over Pacific. After dropping the first set 25-19, the Toms won 25-13, 25-23, 25-19. Fran Egan had nine kills, and Brown and Madie Kroehler each had eight kills. Mazzola had four aces. Meyer added 26 digs, and Anetipa had 32 assists.
Coach Thanh Pham's team plays two Saturday matches against hist George Fox and Willamette to close out the trip.
