No. 29-ranked St. Thomas Women's Cross Country had a solid race and placed 22nd out of 32 teams Saturday at Division III national meet in Elsah, Ill. It was the team's second top-25 finish in a row.
Sophomore Sara Ness placed 133rd out of 279 finishers in 22:30 to lead the Toms, who had just 13 seconds between their top five finishers.
Ali Glassbrenner (141st, 22:32), Melissa Marsh (152nd, 22:36), Jenny Walz (160th, 22:40), Becca Wilkin (166th, 22:43), Amber Matzoll (172nd, 22:46) and Jenny Launder (199th, 22:56) rounded out the UST lineup.
Carleton placed fifth at 258. Four other qualifying teams from the region were Wartburg (20th, 494); St. Olaf (21st, 504), UST (22nd, 514) and Nebraska Wesleyan (23rd, 516).
"It was a very solid team race, everyone ran well," said Tommie coach Joe Sweeney. "I'm proud of what they did. The conditions today were challenging with high winds, drizzle and a hilly course."
