Tommie CC teams get national academic awards

St. Thomas Women's Cross Country received six individual and one team award for academics for the fall 2017 semester by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA).

Coach Joe Sweeney's Tommie team has a 3.54 grade-point average -- one of 221 Division III women's teams nationally that were recognized.

Six members of UST's region team were among 368 D-III women's runners who received individual honors with a top-50 individual regional finish and surpassed a set academic standard:

The Tommies were the lone MIAC school and one of just 16 in Division III to have six or more individual honorees. Four of the honorees have gpas of 3.74 or higher.

St. Thomas, which had four seniors in its top 16, placed third in the MIAC Championships and 22nd at nationals.

 

Men's Cross Country

St. Thomas Men's Cross Country received two individual and one team award for academics for the fall 2017 semester by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA).

Coach Pete Wareham's Tommie squad has a 3.24 grade-point average -- one of 167 Division III men's teams nationally that were recognized.

Two members of UST's region team -- sophomore Karl Wachter and junior Parker Rosenau -- were among 300 D-III men's runners who received individual honors with a top-50 individual regional finish and surpassed a set academic standard.

Wachter and Rosenau each have a cumuative gpa above 3.95.

St. Thomas, which had just two seniors in its top 12, placed fourth in the MIAC Championships and 11th at the regional race.
