Men's Hoops rolls to 3-0 start with hard-fought win

St. Thomas Men's Basketball used a late 17-7 run to pull away from a stubborn Southern Vermont team, 79-67, in Saturday night's Hoopsville tournament in Baltimore.
The No. 4-ranked Tommies (3-0) shot 50.8 percent from the floor, had a 46-33 rebounding edge, and made nine 3-pointers.
Taylor Montero had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists;
Ryan Saarela had 14 points and 13 rebounds;
Cortez Tillman had 15 points and five assists;
Grant Shaeffer added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Tommies are off until Wed. Dec. 2 when they open their home and MIAC seasons against Concordia-Moorhead.
Friday's Game
Senior guard Cortez Tillman scored 26 points, including 11 of 12 made free throws, to lead No. 4-ranked St. Thomas in Friday night's 82-70 men's basketball win over No. 18-ranked Emory (Ga.) in the Hoopsville Classic.
St. Thomas (2-0) made 13 of 14 at the foul line in the final 3:30 to pull away. The Toms outscored Emory 33-9 from behind the arc.
Ryan Saarela had 17 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Taylor Montero added 20 points, including six 3-pointers.
The Toms play Southern Vermont on Saturday.
