ST. PAUL, MINN. – October is here, which means it's officially basketball season. With under a month until the season kicks off at Iowa State, the University of St. Thomas women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday morning.

St. Thomas made strides during the 2024-25 season, earning its highest finish in the Summit League standings since joining the conference in 2021. The Tommies closed the season with a 17-13 record, including  9-7 mark in conference play, marking the second straight 15+ win season for the Purple in the Division I era. St. Thomas also set DI era records for single-season wins (17) and Summit League wins (9) during the 2024-25 season.

Tommie head coach Ruth Sinn will need to fill some very large shoes in 2025-26 after losing six seniors to graduation, including All-Summit League honorees Jade Hill and Jo Langbehn. Sophomore forward Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany) and senior guard Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) are the top returners for St. Thomas entering 2025-26, as both appeared in all 30 games for the Tommies in 2024-25. Sand ranked top-3 on the team in field goal percentage last season, while Feuerbach was a key player off the bench for Sinn.

St. Thomas will kick off its 2025-26 campaign on Monday, November 3 when the team travels to Iowa State for its season opener. The Tommies will then return home to host Army to open Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. Tickets can still be purchased at www.tommiesports.com/tickets.
