ST. PAUL, MINN. – Tick, tack, toe, give us an X. Give us an O. Give the University of St. Thomas football team four in a row. The Tommies won their fourth consecutive Pioneer Football League (PFL) contest Saturday afternoon, shutting out Marist in a dominant 45-0 win at O'Shaughnessy Stadium. With the victory, St. Thomas improves to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in PFL play.

QUICK HITS:

  • Head coach Glenn Caruso and Associate Head Coach Wallie Kuchinski coached their 200th games at St. Thomas on Saturday, improving to 163-37 all-time with the Tommies. The duo has coached all 200 games together, with Kuchinski serving as Caruso's defensive coordinator in every contest.
  • Andy Peters recorded another 200+ yard performance, finishing with 248 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also rushed for three and completed 14 of 19 passes.
  • Quentin Cobb-Butler ended the game with 125 receiving yards on five receptions and one touchdown.
  • The Tommie defense was stifling once again, holding the Red Foxes to just nine total first downs and 182 yards of total offense. Ryan Sever led the way with seven tackles, while Rod Finley, Nick Hand, and Branden Smith each tallied interceptions.

SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter:
For the second straight week, St. Thomas closed the first quarter with a 15-0 lead, scoring two touchdowns and converting a two-point attempt for the early advantage. Quentin Cobb-Butler (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) opened the Tommies' scoring efforts with a 38-yard touchdown reception, while Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline) and Gabriel Abel (Trenton, N.J. / Salisbury School) extended the lead to 15-0 after a successful tush push and two-point conversion.

Second Quarter: The way the defense was playing, the Tommies didn't need any additional points — but they continued to roll in the second quarter. Touchdowns from Peters and Luke Schuler (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic) highlighted the frame as St. Thomas entered the locker room with a commanding 35-0 lead.

Third Quarter: Up 35-0, the Tommies added one more touchdown in the third quarter while the defense continued to hold the Red Fox offense in check. Abel scored St. Thomas' lone touchdown of the quarter, extending the lead to 42-0.

Fourth Quarter: Elliot Huether (Minnetonka, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret's) converted a 25-yard field goal to seal the 45-0 victory for the Tommies. He also totaled 304 yards on kickoffs and 237 punting yards Saturday afternoon.

TOMMIE TIDBITS:

  • Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline) recorded his second consecutive 200+ yard performance, closing the game with 248 passing yards. He has thrown for over 200 yards in five of his eight starts this season.
  • Quentin Cobb-Butler (St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) closed the game with 125 receiving yards, his third 100+ yard performance this season.
  • The Tommie defense was credited with a season-high three interceptions in Saturday's contest, with Nick Hand (Rogers, Minn. / Totino-Grace) recorded his third of the season. Additionally the defense shutout an opponent for the first time since the 2022 season.

UP NEXT:
It's crunch time for St. Thomas, as the team faces one of the toughest remaining schedules in the PFL to close out the 2025 regular season. Up next: the Drake Bulldogs in Des Moines, Iowa. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. next Saturday, November 8.
