ST. PAUL – Transfer senior Justin Oliver scored his second goal in as many games on Sunday afternoon to send the Tommie men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at South Field.

With the win, St. Thomas improves to 2-0-0 on the year, while the Stags drop to 0-2-0 after falling to Macalester 2-1 on Friday night.

Oliver, who transferred to St. Thomas from Eastern Illinois last spring, put away the eventual game-winning goal in the 34th minute. Justin took an assist from his twin brother Tyler to put the Purple on top 1-0 headed to the break.

The Tommies outshot the Stags 5-2 in the first half, including a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. St. Thomas extended both differences in the second half. In the second 45 minutes, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was unable to put any shots on net, as the Tommie defense clamped down to close out the shutout win.

For the game, UST outshot the Stags 11-2 with a 6-2 edge on net. The Tommies also tallied four corner kicks to just two for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

In goal, junior Aidan Hogan picked up his second shutout of the year, making two saves. His counterpart, Daniel Cul made five saves in the loss.

The Tommies will be back in action again on Tuesday afternoon when they host the University of Northwestern at 4:00 pm on South Field.
